Facebook News Feed Explained

Login to Facebook and you will be greeted with the “news stream” of posts from friends and brands etc. But do you know why you see what you see and from whom?

I interviewed with Profnet Connect’s Grace Lavigne to help her answer her reader’s question about how Facebook decides what to feature in your news feed.

For those who aren’t aware, you could always click “most recent” at the top of your news feed to see everyone’s post (you’ll subject yourself to more random updates about what friends are eating), otherwise Facebook will default to your “top news” and present you with posts that are generally of more interest to you, or that have the most engagement or original content. Also:

Facebook learns about you as you use it, like Google search engines. If you never interact with a page, then Facebook probably won’t have it interact with you.

Remember, if you are a company running a page, post as much original content as possible along with interacting with the people and fans who post most so that your page is more likely to show up in other people’s news streams. Read more from my interview about the Facebook news feed HERE.
